Quotes from Thoreau

"After a partial cessation of his sensuous life, the soul of man, or its organs rather, are reinvigorated each day, and his Genius tries again what noble life it can make."

This quote is stating that at the end of a mans life his body is regenerated so that he can make the best of his days. If you know that your life is about to end you know that you have to treat everyday like it is your last, by making it a great day. It’s almost as if your body puts on the after burners to let you have one last hurrah before it is your time to pass away.

“Superfluous wealth can buy superfluities only. Money is not required to buy one necessary of the soul.”

This quote is saying that money is not important to your soul. “Money can’t buy happiness,” that saying applies directly to this quote. In order to be happy you don’t need money, money can only buy things that are not necessary. Material things can’t make you happy forever.
